Emergency presidential re-election general meeting

Joon Choi, whom we elected as President of UBC Anime Club for the upcoming year, will unfortunately be stepping down due to surpassing the credit limit and UBC no longer considering him a student for this year, thus rendering him unable to serve as an AMS club exec. As the club formally needs an officially elected president to continue existing, we have no choice but to hold another emergency election general meeting as per AMS’s club rules.

This re-election general meeting will take place at 7PM, Friday August 27th in the voice channel of our Discord server. The primary reason for this announcement is not only to report this news, but to request member attendance during this meeting and to vote. AMS requires us to have at least 10 official club members who are also UBC students to log in to AMS Campusbase online with your CWL to vote in order for the meeting to be valid and the handover to be passed, so if any of you could spare the time to drop in and vote in order to ensure this club can continue to exist, that would be greatly appreciated. Even though there may only be one candidate for president, we still require a vote of confidence of at least 50% approval in order to successfully re-elect.

Furthermore, as we have chosen Cole, our current secretary, as the candidate to fill this role, this leaves the position of Secretary vacant to any members who may be interested in becoming an exec. Since this news was so sudden, and we’re scrambling to have everything sorted out before the school year begins, unfortunately we will only be accepting new candidates for Secretary until 11:59PM next Tuesday, August 24th. UBCAni 2021-2022 exec nominations are now open!

It’s that time of the year again– elections! We’re looking for enthusiastic weebs who want to help keep this club alive and run for executive positions next academic year. Know anybody, or think you’re up to the task? Fill out the nomination form below before March 19th, 2021, with who you think would fit the bill- your friend, your enemy, yourself, anyone! Our AGM (Annual General Meeting) and the elections will be held on Friday, March 26th, 2021!

UBCAni Virtual Clubs Days 2021

The UBCAni Clubs Day Virtual Booth event is coming up this Thursday and Friday afternoon (January 28 & 29)!  Come visit us virtually on Discord and our exec team will be more than happy to answer all your questions about the club, club events, membership fees, members perks, and hopefully, ease your way into joining our wonderfully weird family. We’ll be hosting Q & A sessions and fun online games as well so feel free to drop by and say hi, ask us any questions, and join in on the fun!

Due to the current and ongoing global pandemic, we here at UBCAni understand the struggles we all face together this school year and we would like express our utmost gratitude for your continued love and support during these troubled times. Since club events for the foreseeable future will remain restricted to online platforms, we have decided to significantly reduce our standard membership fees for new, returning, and non-UBC members! Rest assured that our exec team will continue to strive to put these funds to good use in organizing events and activities to ensure the satisfaction of our valued members.

Membership Fees for 2020:

New UBC Student Membership: $5.00

Returning UBC Student Membership: $4.00

New General Membership: $7.50

Returning General Membership: $6.00

As we are unable to accept membership fees in person this year, we will be accepting them through e-transfer. After filling out this form: UBCAni membership form, please e-transfer the corresponding fee to ubcani@gmail.com. After we have confirmed your payment, we will send you a confirmation e-mail with your membership number. More detailed information can be found on the google form itself. Please note that this may take a few days as our club has a lot of members.

If you are unable to pay through e-transfer, we also accept alternative methods like Paypal. Please don’t hesitate to email us at ubcani@gmail.com or message us on Discord or Facebook if you have any questions or require our assistance in any way.

UBCAni x PRINT: Gekkan Crafts Tano-Kun Art Competition!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our 4 arts and crafts workshops over the last 4 months. We hope you had a good time and learned a lot! This is a reminder announcement that the overarching event of our collaboration with UBC PRINT Arts and Crafts is an art/crafts contest from December 23rd, 2020 to January 2nd 2021 at midnight. Submissions will be accepted via Google form that will be added here at a later date. Please join both our Discord server and the UBCAni x PRINT Collab Discord server for the live events and discussion.

Contest Categories

  • Most Popular/Fan Favourite: For this category we will have publicly open voting on which one people like the most.
  • Best Application of Workshops: This category is based upon which submission the judge’s think used the most elements from each workshop.
  • 2D media: This category is for whichever 2D created piece the judges think is best (ex. a drawn piece of art or a painting).
  • 3D media: This category is for what piece of 3D art piece the judge’s think is best (ex. a sculpture or craft).

Prizing

For the winner of our Most Popular/Fan Favourite we will be giving away a Huion Graphics Tablet valued at $80!

For our 2D media prize, we have an exclusive Demon Slayer key frame art print from the Ufotable Cafe in Tokyo valued at over $50 USD!

For the 3D category, we have an anime figurine and keychains TBA!

And finally, for the Workshop category, we have an 80 piece marker set!
