UBCAni Activities in 2020

Despite the insanity of the last few months, UBC Anime Club is determined to continue on with weekly weeby activities, and the newsletter alongside that. We’ll be using Discord as our main platform for all online activities, so be sure to join if you haven’t already, and weeklies take place every Friday from 7:00PM to 10:00PM or later. Updates on what we’ll be doing each week will come through our Facebook group and #events channel in Discord. Give yourself the activities role in our Discord server by typing:

to get notified and pinged when we start and other related announcements. The weekly online activitiy will take place from 7:00PM-9:00PM.

Artist meetups in the form of remote Drawpiles are still happening, starting from 9:00PM Fridays! Check the pinned post in the Artist Facebook group or the #art-discussion channel in our Discord server for pings, updates, and our finished canvases (also found in our website’s gallery)! Don’t know what Drawpile is? Find out more and a tutorial here. Give yourself the “artist” role in our Discord server by typing:

Once again, for specifics on joining the game, please watch our Discord’s #events channel or our Facebook group and join the events role!

9:00 – 10:00PM: Showings

As we’re reviving our weekly newsletter (sign up for it here) for our online club activities, with fewer events we have more newsletter real estate to fill. Do you have an anime-related artwork, cosplay, video, or any kind of content you’ve made and are proud of? Email us, or contact us either through our Facebook page or @exec on Discord to submit your work and social media links so we can feature you!

Thank you for another year.

On behalf of the 2019 executive team we would like to congratulate you on finishing finals and the conclusion of another academic term. With this comes a goodbye as well from the 2019-2020 executive team. We would like to thank you for the wonderful year, from heroes and villains at Halloween, icing gingerbread men at Christmas, finding your knight at Valentine’s (via otome game style) and finally the wonderful memories from our weekly events.

Valentine’s Social 2020 Recap

Akira (CV: Cole) is at last united with one of the members of the hivemind otomes who completed his route.

A huge thanks to everyone who came and participated! It was an amazing experience, and we hope that you felt the same. We really tried switching things up significantly this time, so we’re really keen to hear your thoughts on how it went. Feedback on how this event was received is really important to us, since club reception is what decides if we repeat something like this again!

As always, photos of the event are available in our Gallery. Highlights under the break.

4 days left: Meet the Student Council

Meet Akira! He has quite the reputation and is known by everyone as the “Bad Wolf.” All the rival school gangs have him on their watch list. Feared by all, even the teachers are afraid to stand up to him. Akira creates a lot of trouble for the disciplinary committee members for never wearing his school uniform properly and loitering around the hallways. He might be a little bit intimidating, but he’s secretly a really sweet guy. Akira wouldn’t give it a second thought to be by your side when you need him. He’s caring, reliable and extremely protective. Akira loves to eat meat and often dreams of meat. He snoozes during class time to time, so you might have to wake him up when the teacher calls on him!

We’ll be uncovering his face closer to the event. There are two more classmate reveals. Who will YOU choose!?

Meet Ryu! Ryu is the Vice President of the Student Council and member of the disciplinary committee. Ryu is a no-nonsense, straight-laced student with high morals. He pays great attention to detail and things rarely go unnoticed under his watch. A stickler for rules, Ryu makes sure that everyone abides by the school’s handbook. Praised by all the teachers, he’s surely someone who will become a top leader one day! You can find him spending his afternoons at the library by the window sill, absorbed in a book. In these moments, he looks very gentle and kind. Ryu never lets go of the things that catch his attention. He is observant, dependable and intelligent.

We’ll be uncovering his face closer to the event. There is one more classmate reveal. Who will YOU choose!?

Meet Yuuto! Yuuto is the Student Council President of the University of Bishounen Cabedons. Liked by all the students and teachers alike, Yuuto is friendly and bubbly. He makes sure that no one is left out. Yuuto loves to eat sweets and shares his candy whenever someone is sad. There is never a dull moment with Yuuto because of his upbeat and happy-go-lucky personality. Yuuto’s smile can make you temporarily forget all your worries and fears. He is kind, affectionate and devoted. Yuuto can be a scatterbrain sometimes but Ryuu, his trustworthy Vice President, keeps him organized.

We’ll be uncovering his face closer to the event. There are three handsome men waiting… Who will YOU choose!?

(EVENT REVEAL 2/7/20)

Now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for… Meet Akira, Ryu and Yuuto… played by our very own execs! Who will YOU choose!? Meet these fellows at our Valentine’s Social! They’ll be waiting for you…

To clarify, our Valentine’s Social that’s happening this upcoming Saturday starts at 6:30 PM. Doors open at 6:30 PM and activities start at 7:00 PM. Hope to see everyone there!
